Weekend Academy for Chinese Language and Culture
In September 2013, Kwong Kow Chinese School (KKCS) launched the new Chinese Language and Culture curriculum, which has been designed according to guidelines provided in the Core Curriculum of the Massachusetts Frameworks for Foreign Languages, and informed by the Language-B requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. This program will bring together native speakers of Mandarin and Cantonese as they collaborate in working through a rigorous matrix of second-language learning, so that graduates of the program will be well prepared for the SAT Subject Test in Chinese. We also offer AP Chinese Language and Culture when there is enough interest.
Student learning is assessed through use of a rubric that addresses competencies in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. A significant proportion of the new curriculum will be devoted to the learning of Chinese history and culture, and Chinese American history.
